Summer Reading Program 2008
The Rancho Santa Fe Library 2008 Summer Reading Program is a 6 week parent-supervised program designed to encourage reading throughout the summer. It is not a race or competition. You may read as much as you wish, just as long as you read!
The Summer Reading Program Kick off is Wednesday, May 21st @ 3:00 with Culture Shock, and Thursday, June 5th at 3:30 with a Wildlife program with live animals present. At these programs we will encourage children to sign up on June 12th. Program begins Thursday, June 12th and Thursday, July 24th is the last day to report. Friday, July 25th is the Ice Cream Social (End of the Summer Reading Program Party)! The Summer Reading Program is determined by reading level. This is determined by what section of books they are reading in the library: TOTS, JE, JF, or YA. Keep track of what you have read. This is to help remind you what to talk about when you are reporting. You can read ANYTHING (magazines, books, graphic novels), just as long as your reading! We will hold on to your reading log so you don’t have to worry about losing it. You will have to keep track of how much time you have read. For each twenty minutes we will mark off a circle on your reading log. You can report ONCE each day. A report is when you sit down and talk to a volunteer about what you’ve read. Reporting Hours are Monday – Saturday 9:30 -5. You receive stickers or a hand stamp each time you come in to report. When you have completed the hourly level (1.5 or 5 hours depending on reading level) you will receive a prize out of the appropriate prize box. After completing an entire reading log you get a BIG prize, so READ, READ, READ! When you have completed your hourly level you also get a raffle ticket to all the wonderful grand prizes to be given away at the end of the Summer Reading Program. Also you get to choose a book to keep from the appropriate reading level. Have FUN!
